Why the Monarch Butterfly?
The monarch butterfly serves as a powerful metaphor for transformation, symbolizing metamorphosis, resilience and lasting change. Just as a butterfly undergoes a complete, messy and internal restructuring to achieve flight, children move through several distinct, but related stages prior to adulthood. Our educators collaborate with you while guiding your child through each of these critical stages by implementing small, but intentional actions.
What Makes Us Different?
Above all else, we value early literacy, transformation, self-discovery and self-determination. Our educators are stewards of influence and knowledge. Under their leadership, students are mentored, empowered and challenged to think critically.
At Monarch Montessori School, children learn in multi-age settings. Cooperation plays an integral role in the classroom. Students are encouraged to work together, problem-solve and form lasting friendships. Guides aim to understand each child's individual social, emotional and academic needs and craft an educational experience based on what they've observed.
What Do We Guarantee?
We guarantee an educational experience that is laser-focused on nurturing the "whole child" academically, socially, emotionally and physically while promoting independence, self-motivation and a lifelong love of learning.
95% of our rising Kindergarteners can write legibly, recognize site words, communicate using advanced vocabulary, recognize numbers and place them in sequential order by the age of 5. When in Kindergarten, our students perform above grade level.
Subsidy
Monarch Montessori School participates in the Virginia Childcare Subsidy and the Military Subsidy Programs.
What is the Montessori Method?
Montessori is an education philosophy and practice that fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development, with a goal of nurturing each child's natural desire for knowledge, understanding and respect (AMI, 2021).
Montessori for Infants, Toddlers and Primary Ages
According to Maria Montessori, children under the age of six possess a unique superpower called the absorbent mind. Young children absorb their immediate environment and the larger world around them. Montessori preschool centers around the premise that a child learns through absorbing their environment. At Monarch Montessori School, classroom environments are carefully designed to develop the absorbent mind . In the First Plane of Development, children learn primarily through order, freedom and beauty. At Monarch Montessori School, we use authentic Montessori materials that are fully-accessible to students at all times. Infants and Toddlers share a sun-filled, open-concept classroom on the first floor of our building. Children ages 3-6 share classrooms on our second floor.
