Our Philosophy

Every school that you encounter will have its own education philosophy. Monarch Montessori's philosophy centers around the principle of individualism.  Students perceive themselves as capable of making their own choices, while in constant relationship with other students and guides in the classroom. At Monarch Montessori School, children learn in multi-age settings. Cooperation plays an integral role in the classroom. Students are encouraged to work together, problem-solve and form lasting friendships. Guides aim to understand each child's individual social, emotional and academic needs and craft an educational experience based on what they've observed.

Community Impact

Monarch Montessori School pledges to leave our local community better than we found it. Here's how we can accomplish this goal:

  • Monarch Montessori School pledges to pay all employees a living wage.

  • Monarch Montessori School pledges to subsidize public transportation costs for all employees, reducing our carbon  footprint.

  • Monarch Montessori School pledges to encourage career advancement by offering paid training including a six-month  Management course for teachers interested in managing a childcare facility.

  • Monarch Montessori School pledges to set aside at least 18% of all open slots for families who are eligible for the  subsidized child care/voucher program.

Scholarship

Monarch Montessori School awards a scholarship/financial aid to one family per year. Scholarships/financial aid is based on need and awarded on a 12-month basis. We've awarded a scholarship to two families for the 2023/2024 school year. Scholarships/financial aid is awarded between August 1 and September 30 of each calendar year. To inquire about eligibility for the 2024/2025 school year, please contact the office.

What is the Montessori Method?

Montessori is an education philosophy and practice that fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development, with a goal of nurturing each child's natural desire for knowledge, understanding and respect (AMI, 2021).

Montessori for Infants, Toddlers and Primary Ages

Montessori preschool centers around the premise that a child learns through play. Each activity is carefully designed to use their experiences to teach concepts and ideas. The classroom engineers individual exploration. At Monarch Montessori School, we use authentic Montessori materials that are fully-accessible to students at all times. Infants and Toddlers share a sun-filled, open-concept classroom on the first floor of our building. Children ages 3-8 share classrooms on our second floor.

Montessori for Elementary School

What sets Montessori apart in the elementary years is the individually-paced curriculum that challenges children academically while safeguarding their sense of well-being.  Students are challenged to contribute as members of their community, think critically about the world around them and lean in to the learning process.  The classroom affords every opportunity for students to work individually or in small groups at tables or on the floor.  Spaces are uncluttered and promote mindfulness.
